Scrappers pitchers struggle against Batavia

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ pitching staff struggled for the second straight night, giving up 14 hits in a 10-6 loss to the Batavia Muckdogs in a New York-Penn League game Saturday.

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Scrappers gave up three runs in the bottom, then gave up seven runs over the fourth and fifth innings to fall behind 10-3.

Jorge Martinez singled, doubled and drove in two runs for the Scrappers (3-6), while Francisco Mejia singled, doubled and scored twice and Drak Roberts had two hits and three RBIs. Josh McAdams singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in a run and Juan De La Cruz singled, doubled and scored a run.

Luis DeJesus (0-1) started and got the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits and three walks in 31/3 innings.

Jorgan Cavanerio (1-0) started and got the victory, giving up three runs on seven hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Mason Davis had three hits, including a triple, and scored three runs for the Muckdogs (7-2), who beat the Scrappers 7-4 on Friday.

The Scrappers will travel to Auburn to begin a two-game series today before returning home for five games.
