Library will host photography class

SALEM

Go Wild in the Park, a nature photography class and contest, will take place June 30 at Centennial Park, Pavilion 2, E. State St.

The event begins as 6:30 p.m. and is sponsored by Salem Public Library and Salem Parks Department.

Rich Stelts from Swan Lake Photography will teach, demonstrate and explain basic techniques required and equipment needed to take nature photos.

Participants are invited to take nature photos in Salem Parks and enter them in a contest at 6:30 p.m. July 7 at the same location.

Local amateur and beginner photographers are invited to this free event.

Prizes will be awarded at the contest.

Registration for the class is required through Salem Public Library’s website at www.salem.lib.oh.us or call 330-332-0042.

Pageant nominees are being accepted

YOUNGSTOWN

Registrations are being accepted for the Little Prince & Princess Pageant that will take place at 7 p.m. July 24 in the church social hall, 343 Via Mount Carmel, during the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Festival.

The contest includes boys and girls ages 4 through 9 of Italian descent.

Entries are limited.

The festival will run July 24 through 27.

Martini tasting set at Rachel’s Restaurant

AUSTINTOWN

Martini Maid is hosting a summer martini tasting from 6:30 to 9 p.m. July 3 at Rachel’s Restaurant and Bar, 54 Westchester Drive, Suite 23, to help raise money for Project Learning Around the World.

Tickets are $30 per person and cover three 6-ounce martinis and cookout-style appetizers.

There also will be a 50-50 raffle and giveaways.

All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to Project Learning. Its mission is to deliver school supplies and enhance learning environments for children infected with AIDS in rural township schools in South Africa and other developing countries.

Civic association announces schedule

GUILFORD LAKE

Guilford Lake Civic Association will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Hall, Route 172.

Following is the calendar for July:

July 4, 2 p.m.: 31st Annual Boat Parade, Theme: Honor the Military. The Tracy and Todd Winn family of Salem will be honored. Tracy and Todd and their children, Mathew, Josh and Rachel, are all serving in the Ohio National Guard. The parade starts at the State Public Swim Beach on the north side of the lake.

July 20, 2 p.m.: Annual Guilford Lake Civic Association covered dish picnic, State Pavilion, Teegarden Road.

July 31, 7 p.m.: July meeting, Guilford Lake Ruritan Hall, Route 172.

Holy Apostles Parish plans annual picnic

VIENNA

The third annual Holy Apostles Parish Picnic will take place July 13 at Strossmayer Picnic Grounds, 4202 Smith-Stewart Road. Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m.

There is a $5 entrance fee. Food and beer will be available.

From noon to 2 p.m. entertainment will be provided by Happy Hearts Junior Tamburitzans and Hungarian dance groups.

Mickey Dee Polka Band will provide music from 2 to 6 p.m.

At 6 p.m., a parish raffle will take place; winners need not be present.

First prize is $1,000, second prize is $500, third prize is $250, and fourth prize is $150.

At 1, 2, 3 and 4 p.m., hourly $25 prizes will be drawn.

Tickets are $1 each or 11 for $10.

The parish is the merger of Our Lady of Hungary, Sts. Peter & Paul Croatian and St. Stephen of Hungary churches.
