Library will host martial arts demo

The Crystal Dragon Family Martial Arts Center will demonstrate Goshin Jutsu Karate, Aiki Jutsu and Jujutsu techniques from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Leetonia Community Public Library, 181 Walnut St. All ages are welcome to attend.

Library will offer craft class

SALEM

Salem Public Library will offer its Getting Crafty Class from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 14 at Salem Memorial Building, 785 E. State St., Room 10.

Participants will create a variety of envelopes to add flair to greeting cards, scrapbooking, journaling, gift giving and more. All materials will be provided, and the class is free.

Lemonade drinkers help fight cancer

Eastwood Mall patrons participated in National Lemonade Days on June 6 through 8, which raised money to fight cancer.

Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, who sponsored the event, contributed $2,940 to the cause. The Cafaro Foundation matched contributions up to $2,000 for a grand total of $4,940 raised.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation started in 2000 when 4-year-old Alex, a cancer patient, announced she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since her first lemonade stand, $80 million has been raised. For information on ALSF visit www.alexslemonade.org.

Golf outing will help man who has cancer

LAKE MILTON

A golf outing will take place at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 9 at Lakeside Golf Course, 2404 S.E. River Road. Proceeds will benefit the Jim Hlinka Benefit Fund.

The entry fee is $75 per person and covers greens fee, riding cart, coffee and doughnuts served promptly at 7:30 a.m., lunch, dinner, beverages, skins, door prizes (must be present to win) and a hat. The format is a four-person scramble with a shotgun start promptly at 8:30 a.m.

All registrations and payments must be in by July 18.

For dinner only, the price is $30 per person, and advance registration is required.

Monetary donations as well as other donations that can be raffled are needed. Monetary donations can be made at any Huntington Bank for the Jim Hlinka Benefit Fund.

Hlinka, of Youngstown, is battling colon and liver cancer and is without medical insurance.
