POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

June 8

Thefts: Items such as a firearm, bank checks and an iPad device were taken from vehicles in numerous township locations.

June 9

Harassment: A Hamilton Avenue man said he has been harassed.

BOARDMAN

June 13

Theft: Police accused a 17-year-old Youngstown girl of taking $72 worth of clothing from the JC Penney store in Southern Park Mall. They released her to the custody of her mother.

Disrupting public services: A Shields Road woman discovered someone intentionally had cut phone lines to her residence.

Theft: Deborah J. Protopapa, 49, was charged with stealing about $38 worth of merchandise from Marc’s, 7121 Tiffany Blvd. Protopapa, of Detroit Avenue, Youngstown, also was wanted on a probation-violation warrant.

Menacing: The owner of a South Avenue motel reported a guest threatened him during a dispute pertaining to the guest’s owing money for having stayed a second night.

Theft: A teacher at Boardman High School, 7777 Glenwood Ave., reported a cable, a power cord, an adaptor and a TV box stolen from his classroom.

Theft: Police charged Bri’aris A.R. Anderson, 18, and Stacy J. Green, 43, both of Williamsburg Street, with theft. The two Warren women were accused of stealing $178 worth of merchandise, including a necklace, from Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road.

June 14

Attempted fraud: A Wolcott Drive woman told police a female caller claiming to represent the Internal Revenue Service said she owed $6,873 in back taxes from 2007 to 2012 and that her husband would be arrested if she failed to pay.

Burglary: To a home in the 70 block of Roche Way. Stolen were 102 pills that are commonly used to treat anxiety, panic disorders and seizures.

Citation: A traffic stop on South Avenue led to a citation charging 25-year-old Randall White of Paulin Drive, Boardman, with operating a vehicle impaired.

Drugs: A traffic stop in the 5600 block of Southern Boulevard resulted in the arrest of 18-year-old James T. McKenna on one count of trafficking in marijuana, a fifth-degree felony. McKenna, of Southwoods Drive, Boardman, had a jar containing 22 grams of suspected marijuana; also found were two bags and a digital scale, both with suspected marijuana residue, a report showed.

Theft: Two 18-inch tires and two rims were stolen from Preston Auto Group Inc., 7554 Market St. The loss was estimated at $1,500.

Assault/theft: An Ivy Hill Drive woman alleged her boyfriend shoved, pushed and struck her during an argument related to cellphone messages. The accuser also reported her $600 phone stolen.

Drugs: Officers responded to a possible drug overdose at a Market Street motel, where they reported having found a suspected crack-cocaine pipe.

Theft: A man reportedly failed to pay a $55 bill after having rented a room at the Wagon Wheel Motel, 7015 Market St.

Theft: Brandon J. Gaida, 18, of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, was charged with taking two pingpong balls from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

June 15

Arrest: Donald P. O’Brien, 31, of Market Street, Boardman, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after police pulled him over in the 7300 block of Market.

Assault: A woman in the 7200 block of Market Street reported a man trying to get her cellphone lost his grip and inadvertently struck her face, though she had no external injuries.

Citation: Police responded to a suspicious person in the 8300 block of Market Street before issuing a minor-misdemeanor citation charging 26-year-old David R. Doni Jr. of Stadler Avenue, Boardman, with public intoxication.

Domestic violence: Kathy M. Ludt, 45, of South Avenue, Boardman, was charged with the crime after her daughter alleged that an intoxicated Ludt had grabbed her hair and struck her face during an argument. The accuser had a deep cut on her eyebrow, as well as scratches and redness.

Theft: A woman stole a $30 bag and $20 worth of additional merchandise from Family Dollar, 4030 South Ave.

Menacing: An Argyle Avenue woman said a man made 16 unwanted calls to her home, including a threat to come to her residence to beat her up.

Theft: A $250 push mower was stolen from Unity Baptist Church, 5920 South Ave.

Harassment: A Lockwood Boulevard woman said her boyfriend’s former wife has sent and made unwanted text messages and calls to her.

Auto theft: A vehicle-registration check on Market Street resulted in the arrest of 32-year-old Yolanda D. Jones of Columbus on a felony charge of receiving stolen property when, authorities said, the 2002 Volvo S60 car she was driving had been reported stolen in that city.

June 16

Theft/criminal damaging: Purses, wallets, an airline ticket and credit cards were among items stolen from several cars someone had entered in the 300 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Harassment: A Nellbert Lane man reported having received such voicemail messages regarding money he supposedly owes.

Theft: A woman noticed her purse missing from a shopping cart while at a Doral Drive big-box store.

Criminal mischief: Someone shot paint balls at a residence in the 4900 block of Grover Drive, striking a garage door, a front window and another door.

Theft/drugs: Patti L. Fitzpatrick, 26, of Merle Road, Salem, faced a theft charge after $181 worth of jewelry and men’s clothing was stolen from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road. Police also gave a minor-misdemeanor citation to 28-year-old Scott A. Freet of Goshen Road, Salem, charging him with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 40 block of McClurg Road was found with a damaged passenger-side mirror. Damage was estimated at $150.

Theft: Authorities arrested 22-year-old Nicolette T. Anzelmo on a theft warrant related to a March 16 shoplifting situation at Walmart in which Anzelmo, of Bright Avenue, Campbell, was accused of stealing six baby-food products.

Harassment: A Rosewood Drive man said he received several such voicemail messages.

Theft/damage: Eight cars in the 40 block of McClurg Road sustained damage. Stolen were purses, a set of keys and several other items.

Recovered property: An abandoned 1988 Cadillac Brougham vehicle was found in the 4100 block of Market Street with a damaged steering column after having been reported stolen in Youngstown.

Theft: A man and a woman reportedly removed at least $100 worth of soap products from Family Dollar, 4028 Market St.

Theft: Katherine L. MacDonald, 63, of Yarmouth Lane, Boardman, was issued a summons after $23 worth of groceries was stolen from Modarelli’s Sparkle Market, 4121 South Ave.

Domestic violence: Michael M. Stepan, 44, of Tudor Lane, Boardman, was taken into custody on a domestic-violence warrant after his girlfriend alleged Stepan had lifted her up in an aggressive manner in an effort to forcibly remove her from a garage, causing the accuser to sustain several scratches to her arms.

June 17

Assault: A township man alleged an Old Oxford Lane man choked him and tossed the accuser on a bed as he gathered personal property.
