WARREN

Police say a Cleveland man in his early 20s was shot to death at a house at 228 Forest Street Northeast at 8:26 p.m. Tuesday.

They have made no arrests in the case, though they have a person of interest who remained at the house after they arrived and spoke with them.

Police refused to identify the dead man Wednesday afternoon, though Vindicator news partner 21 WFMJ-TV has identified him as Deon Sanders, 22, of Cleveland and Youngstown.

Capt. Brian Massucci said the man’s death has been ruled a homicide. A number of people were interviewed about the incident, but Massucci was not willing to discuss whether any of the people interviewed witnessed the incident.

A Warren police report said the dead man was found on his back near the driveway to the house and was transported to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.

The dead man had identification on him, but it was not the dead man’s identification, and he did not have any of his own identification, Massucci said.

Police have discussed the case with prosecutors but are waiting to determine whether any charges will be filed against the person of interest.

A woman inside the house when police arrived said she was sleeping and didn’t hear the gunfire. Massucci said the woman was charged with falsification and also picked up on a warrant, but her name was not included in the police report.

It is the third homicide of 2014 in the city.
