Mich. mom cleared in Ohio crash that killed twin infants

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) — A Michigan woman has been found not guilty by reason of insanity in a car crash that killed her 6-week old twins in Ohio.

A northwestern Ohio judge ruled today that 29-year-old Lori Massingill of Ida, Mich., was suffering from acute psychotic mental illness when the crash occurred last November.

Investigators say she was driving nearly 100 mph just before she drove over a railroad crossing. Her car went airborne and rolled in a ditch in Ohio’s Wood County just outside Toledo.

The twins who were restrained in car seats died just two days apart after the crash.

Media reports say there will be a hearing later this month to determine where Massingill will be placed.

The judge today said Massingill had a history of psychiatric hospitalizations.
