Ink pen used as weapon in aggravated robbery

WARREN

Lee V. Taylor, 29, of Elm Road Northeast, will be arraigned today in Warren Municipal Court on an aggravated robbery charge after a man said Taylor held an ink pen to his throat and demanded his cell phone.

The victim, 25, of Oak Knoll Avenue Southeast, said he agreed to give Taylor a ride to the gas station from a tavern on East Market Street.

The victim said on the way there, Taylor threatened him with the ink pen, so he gave Taylor his cell phone. Taylor got out of the car at the Pit Stop gas station on South Street, and Taylor got out also, a police report states.

The victim called 911 at the gas station at 3:25 a.m., and police found Taylor a short time later. Taylor had a cell phone that was apparently the victim’s because the victim knew the code to unlock it, police said.

If convicted, Taylor could get 10 years in prison.

Also, a man who apparently took merchandise from the electronics department at Kmart, 2485 Parkman Road NW, injured a loss-prevention officer during a scuffle at 9 p.m. Wednesday in front of the store.

Kmart personnel said they saw the suspect concealing merchandise in his clothing and then walk out the front door. The loss-prevention officer confronted the man outside the store, and the suspect knocked the worker to the ground and ran to a maroon four-door automobile, where a male waited to drive him away.

The worker suffered a minor shoulder injury. The store will make surveillance video available to police later.
