State: Tanker no longer leaking chemical in Ohio

SIDNEY, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency says a tanker is no longer leaking anhydrous ammonia, though evacuations continue and part of Interstate 75 remains shut down in western Ohio.

State EPA spokeswoman Dina Pierce says the highway closure and evacuations near Sidney will continue until the chemical can be transferred to another truck. No injuries have been reported.

Sidney is about 40 miles north of Dayton. The evacuations affect residents and businesses within about a half-mile of the leak site.

Authorities have not determined what caused the leak.

Anhydrous ammonia is used as a gas but is shipped as a liquid under pressure. It can irritate eyes and skin and can be dangerous if inhaled.
