Ohio man pleads guilty in woman's fatal stabbing

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) — Prosecutors say an Ohio man has pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and aggravated burglary in the fatal stabbing of an 80-year-old woman.

Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher says 34-year-old Tyrone Caldwell was sentenced Monday to life in prison without the possibility for parole in the death of Marilyn Eversole. She died of multiple stab wounds from a kitchen knife during an apparent burglary in Mount Vernon, northeast of Columbus, on April 8.

Caldwell also pleaded guilty to attempted murder and other charges related to an attack on Eversole’s home health worker. The worker had arrived at the apartment that morning to spend time with Eversole.

Media outlets report that Caldwell gave a tearful apology in court.
