Martinez powers Scrappers past Jammers

Left fielder Jorge Martinez hit a go-ahead home run in the 10th inning off of Eric Dorsch to lead the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to a 2-1 victory over the Jamestown Jammers on Monday.

The home run was Martinez’s second of the contest, the first one coming in the eighth off of Jamestown reliever Montana DuRapau to tie the game at 1.

The Jammers scored first in the sixth when second baseman Erik Lunde drove in center fielder Carl Anderson with a RBI single.

Receiving the loss for the Jammers was Dorsch, who had three walks in 12/3 innings. Alex McRae started for the Jammers, striking out three in 21/3 innings.

Picking up the win for the Scrappers was J.P. Feyereisen, who pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Starter Luis DeJesus pitched five innings, giving up three hits and striking out three.

James Stokes picked up his second save of the season by striking out the side in the 10th.

The Scrappers will play their home opener today against the Auburn Doubledays at Eastwood Field. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
