City cops make several drug arrests over weekend

Police cited or arrested several people on drug charges over the weekend.
About 10:38 p.m. Sunday, police pulled over a car for a traffic violation at a 3200 Market St. gas station. When the car stopped, the driver got out, and the passenger, later identified as Lawrence Csernik, 54, of Lynn Mar Drive in Poland, tried to slide into the driver’s seat, reports said.
Csernik was searched, and police found a crack pipe in his pocket. He was given a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia and released, reports said. Reports did not mention the driver of the car.
About 9:17 p.m. Sunday, an officer pulled over a car driven by Jesse A. Durkin, 21, of North Hartford Avenue for rolling through a stop sign at East Avondale Avenue and Rush Boulevard. Reports said Durkin appeared to be very nervous and was shaking.
A police dog searched the car and found two bags of suspected marijuana in the driver’s door, reports said. Durkin was given citations for possession of marijuana and disobeying a traffic-control device and released.
About 8:29 p.m. Sunday, Terrell Leonard, 35, was pulled over after police observed loud music playing in a car he was driving. Leonard told officers he had a valid license, but a records check showed his license is suspended. When he was searched, police found six bags of suspected crack cocaine in his pockets.
Leonard was arrested on charges of possession of drugs/crack cocaine, driving under suspension and loud music.
About 8:20 p.m. Saturday, police on patrol on Logan Avenue stopped to investigate after they saw a van pull up to a car at a 1704 Logan Ave. gas station that has been known for drug activity. Reports said a man later identified as Tyrell Hollis, 20, of Youngstown, jumped out of the van and ran away.
An officer chased Hollis, who stopped at Tod Lane after he was warned he would be shot with a stun gun, reports said. Police found a scale in his back pocket. A police dog was brought in to sniff where he ran and found a bag of suspected heroin. Hollis was arrested on charges of obstructing official business, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drugs/heroin.
Police searched the people in the van and the car and arrested Timothy Trevo, 33, of New Castle, Pa., on charges of possession of drugs/heroin, possession of drug-abuse instruments and possession of dangerous drugs after officers found four syringes, two spoons, shoelaces and three pills in his pockets.
Also arrested on the same charges and an additional charge of possession of drugs/marijuana was Valerie Dieter, 35, of Youngstown, after police found suspected heroin, four crack pipes, two spoons, a syringe and a bag of suspected marijuana in her purse.
All three were taken to the jail.
