$50,000 in gear taken from Boardman camera store

BOARDMAN — A camera store was robbed of thousands of dollars of equipment over the weekend.

A store official told police a conservative estimate of the value of the stolen goods was $50,000.

According to a police report, authorities were dispatched to YM Camera, 755 Boardman-Canfield Road, at 5:44 a.m. Saturday for a door alarm. Once at the camera store, the back door was open and no suspects were found within the business.

Three people were caught on surveillance video during the robbery and all were "larger sized, stocky and dressed in long-sleeve hoodie sweatshirts," according to the report.

All three had white masks on their face and gloves on their hands.

Two of the people cleaned off two shelves of merchandise from behind the counter while the third person went into an office to take from the shelves in there.

They used large, black bags during the robbery, according to the police report. The three exited the store after two minutes and six seconds.

The store official also told police they belong to a nationwide group of camera shop owners and there have been break-ins lately with cameras and lenses being stolen.
