Mendoza’s two-run homer powers Jammers past MV Scrappers

JAMESTOWN, N.Y.

Third baseman Yonathan Mendoza had a RBI single in Saturday’s sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers fell to the Jamestown Jammers, 4-1.

Mendoza’s single brought home designated hitter Juan De La Cruz, who had doubled.

Jamestown took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Taylor Gushue, with a runner on, hit his second home run in two days.

Jamestown added on to their lead in the fifth inning. With two outs, rightfielder Michael Suchy tripled to center. First baseman Kevin Ross doubled in Suchy, making the score 3-0.

Up 3-1, the Jammers scored one more in the eighth inning on a RBI groundout by Ulises Montilla, scoring shortstop Tyler Filliben.

For the Scappers, Juan Santana took the loss, giving up six hits and three runs in four and two-third innings. Justin Garcia tossed two and one-third scoreless innings in relief.

Reliever Andres Mendoza earned the victory.

The Scrappers will play the Jammers today at 4:05 p.m.
