LORDSTOWN
The plant manager of the General Motors Lordstown complex, Robert Parcell, has been promoted to the position of manufacturing manager for GM International Operations, according to a press release issued by GM Lordstown.
Parcell is replacing Phill Disch, who retired June 1.
Parcell’s new position is effective Sept.1, and he will be responsible for overseeing the Singapore-based operations of 13 manufacturing facilities and more than 13,000 employees.
He started his career with GM in 1979 as a co-op student in Flint and Grand Rapids, Mich., progressing through the company with multiple assignments in maintenance, engineering, program management and manufacturing operations. Parcell also worked in Mansfield, and led plant operations in Parma; Wentzville, Mo.; Canadian Automotive Manufacturing Inc.; and Bowling Green, Ky., in addition to Lordstown.
Parcell joined Lordstown on Aug. 1, 2010, and led the plant through the launch of the Chevrolet Cruze and “has guided Lordstown on a process-driven path of continuous improvement that has resulted in Cruze being one of the top-selling vehicles in North America today and GM’s best-selling car,” according to the release.
Parcell was a co-recipient of the Northern Ohio March of Dimes Franklin D. Roosevelt award for outstanding community service.
He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Kettering University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix.
A plant-manager successor at Lordstown is to be named later.
