Registration is open for the Faith and Family Festival planned from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 13 at Walsh University’s Hoover Park, 1875 E. Maple St.

The event is free and lunch will be provided. The event is sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown’s Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Life in partnership with Walsh University, and with the help of corporate sponsors. Donations will be accepted.

The day will feature talks by Tim Staples, Catholic evangelist; praise and worship music led by Ben Walther; emcee Brooke Taylor from 95.5 the Fish; and Mass at 5:30 p.m. celebrated by Bishop George V. Murry.

90th anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN

New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St., will celebrate its 90th anniversary at 5 p.m. June 22 with Pastor Sylvester Patton III and the congregation of St. Andrews African Methodist Episcopal as guests.

Refreshments will follow.

The anniversary theme is “United, Empowered and Led by His Spirit to Serve.” The service will include a memorial tribute honoring deceased members of New Bethel and presentation of new 50-year members.

New memorial bricks for the prayer garden will be dedicated.

New Bethel was organized in 1924. Before moving to its present location in 1964, it was at 125 Manning Ave. and 209 Reserve St. The late Rev. Lonnie K.A. Simon was called to pastor in 1962, and retired after 33 years of service. The current pastor, the Rev. Kenneth L. Simon, was called in 1995. Ground was broken for a new church in September 2002, and dedicated in 2004.

50th anniversary

POLAND

The Rev. Dr. Robert Hoover, former pastor of Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor, will be honored for 50 years as an ordained minister during a reception after the 10:30 a.m. June 22 service at the church.

He was ordained at his home church, First Presbyterian in York, Pa. He served New Harrisburg Presbyterian in Carrollton from 1964-70, Central Presbyterian in Massillon from 1970-85 and Poland Presbyterian from 1987 to 2004. The Rev. Mr. Hoover also has served as an interim pastor at various churches and since 2008 as a pulpit supply pastor with many Sundays at Liberty Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Hoover has a master of divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, N.J., and doctor of ministry from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio.

He and his wife, Linda, live in Poland Township and have two adult children and two grandchildren.

Adoration set

NORTH CANTON

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Society at Walsh University will host an all-night adoration to honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary from 9:30 p.m. June 27 to 6:30 a.m. June 28 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel at Walsh University, 2020 East Maple St.

Night prayer will take place at 9:30 p.m., Eucharistic procession and exposition at 10:30, prayer and song from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Mass at 6 a.m.
