The R.O.C.c.K. Children’s Choir is having a benefit concert from 5 to 8 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, 210 Wick Ave., to raise money for a bus trip to visit patients at St. Jude’s Research Hospital in Memphis and Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville. Admission is free, but a free-will offering will be taken.
Compco Industries of Columbiana is providing the bus. The choir is raising funds for lodging and other expenses. Among expected entertainers are the Mandolin Whiskey Band, Ms. Rachell Joy, Patricia Boyer, ROCcK Children’s Choir, Jenah Shank, and Terry and Diane McCabe. A live auction also is scheduled.
The ROCcK Choir also is selling embroidered U.S. flags for $15 that can be purchased at Something Unique Flowers on Mahoning Avenue next to the Austintown Walmart.
Bids taken for roof
YOUNGSTOWN
The trustees of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County voted to advertise for bids for roof and boiler replacement at Boardman Library and later this summer for construction of the new $5 million Canfield Library. Heidi Daniel, library director, said the library hopes to break ground for the Canfield branch in August.
Meetings planned
WARREN
Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership will have meetings for Southeast Warren to continue the outreach for the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Community Challenge Grant.
The goal is to create neighborhood-specific plans that will help the city and residents make choices about the priorities of the neighborhood and what to do with vacant spaces.
The meetings will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Aetna Freight, 2507 Youngstown Road, for the hospital area north of Youngstown Road; 6 p.m. Thursday at Friendship Baptist Church, 1954 Brier St. SE, for the Willard School area; and noon at Friendship Baptist Church, 1954 Brier St. SE, for both areas.
Prayer gathering
YOUNGSTOWN
NOW Youngstown will conduct a citywide prayer gathering at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Metro Assembly of God, 2530 South Ave., as a prelude to the first Increase the Peace rally. The rally is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Estates, 690 Magnolia Ave. Other rallies are planned throughout the summer.
Safety Day set
BAZETTA
The Bazetta Township Police Department and Mosquito Lake Marina will have the 12th annual Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Mosquito Lake State Park. It will include vehicles and representatives from local police and fire departments, state and federal agencies and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Bazetta Police Department will fingerprint children.
