4th annual ‘Burger Battle’ set between police, fire department

Smokey Bones Bar and Fire Grill will host the fourth annual Burger Battle between the Boardman fire and police departments Wednesday.

The contest will raise money for two local charities — the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Special Olympics of Mahoning County.

The event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. with the feature a four-man relay battle at 8 p.m. between the departments.

The first team done with four burgers wins.

In addition to the money the departments raise, the top three national winners will receive $5,000, $2,500 or $1,000 to go to their respective charities.

Each of the 65 Smokey Bones will have the battle Wednesday.

The police department is supporting the Special Olympics, and the fire department is supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

A tailgate pre-party will begin at 7 p.m. and is sponsored by Tabasco and Amstel Light. Guests will be able to sample signature Smokey Bones beverages and take advantage of other special offers.

Guests will also have the opportunity to donate to either cause.
