mid-summer knights medieval festival | This weekend in Warren


Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. N.E., Warren, will host the second annual medieval festival on church grounds. It’s sponsored in part by Trumbull County Tourism Bureau.

Today: Medieval feast starts at 6 p.m. and features madrigal entertainment by Tapestries of Ohio, whose members wear period costumes and sing songs and play instruments of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Cost is $30 for the meal that includes Cornish game hen, bread from the king’s bakery and apple cake from the king’s orchard. Some tickets are available; call the church at 330-372-4998.

Saturday: The festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with activities scheduled throughout the day. At 11 a.m., a dance troupe will entertain at the royal court and foot-combat battlefield; 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Great Lakes Puppet Theater performance of “Rumpelstiltskin” in the great hall; 1 p.m., thrown weapons in the field and fiber-arts demonstration; 2 p.m., grand parade with royal court and bagpiper in performance tent; 2:30 p.m., grand royal procession in church and organ concert; 3 p.m., dance troupe in performance tent; 4 and 7 p.m., The Rouges of Rafferty at royal court; 5 p.m., organ concert; and 6 p.m. harpist Kirk Kupensky at royal court. There also will be food vendors.

Mike the Knight: Children who participate in four of the following events — visit to the royals, dance troupe show, foot-combat in field, archery in field, fiber-arts demonstration and thrown weapons in the field — will receive a free raffle ticket at each event. Drawing for the game will be at 6 p.m.; winner need not be present.

Admission: Saturday admission is $5 for those 13 and older, $3 for children and free for those 5 and younger.
