Festival returns to Ridge

Staff report

MINERAL RIDGE

The Weathersfield Township Flag Day Festival started Thursday and will run through Sunday on the grounds of the old middle school on state Route 46.

A parade will begin at 6 tonight, with Seaborn Elementary School principal Cindy Mulgrew as grand marshal.

The parade will start at Ohltown-McDonald Road and travel up Route 46 to Depot Street, next to the festival grounds. Community and school groups and township officials will march in it.

The festival will be the first in the township in 30 years, ever since the firemen’s festival ended in 1984.

That festival took place at Fire Station No. 21 on Route 46.

Residents had been approaching trustees about restarting the festival, and a committee was formed.

It’s work is culminating in this weekend’s event.

Festival hours will be 5 to 11 p.m. today, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Live music will include No Xcuse tonight and the Rage on Saturday.

Bingo, food vendors, a cornhole tournament and talent performances are also planned.

Sunday will begin with a sausage and pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m., followed by a car show.

A fireworks show will begin at 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
