YOUNGSTOWN
Brian R. Corbin, executive director of Catholic Charities Services of the Diocese of Youngstown, will join Catholic Charities USA on Aug. 4 as senior vice president of social policy.
He will oversee the social-policy team and manage the organization’s advocacy and government affairs efforts.
Bishop George V. Murry said, “Brian’s selection to this national position is a wonderful opportunity for him. His many talents will be a great benefit to CCUSA, the church and the people who need our assistance. Although his leaving the Diocese of Youngstown is our loss, his new position will serve the church on the national level.”
“Brian is no stranger to our membership,” said the Rev. Larry Snyder, president of Catholic Charities USA. “He has been a trusted leader within the Catholic Charities movement in many areas and brings with him the credibility and respect of his peers.”
In 2003 Corbin led the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ National Advisory Council as chairman. He was elected to the national board of trustees of Catholic Charities USA in 2004 and served as secretary until 2011. Corbin was chairman of Catholic Charities USA Task Force on the Code of Ethics, its Committee on Catholic Identity and the editorial board of Catholic Charities USA’s 100th anniversary 2010. He is chairman of Catholic Charities USA Advisory Group on Theology and Ethics.
Corbin has worked for Catholic Charities at the diocese since 1987. For the last 13 years, he was executive director for Catholic Charities Services and Health Affairs and corporate secretary/treasurer for the diocese’s Catholic Charities Corp., where he coordinated health and social ministries of the church.
He studied philosophy and politics at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., political economy at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., and organizational and educational leadership at Youngstown State University.
In 2013, Corbin became a member of the Papal Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. He and his wife, Dr. Donna M. DeBlasio, are members of St. Columba Cathedral.
