POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

June 6

Criminal mischief: A North Avenue man saw that someone had removed the screws to his vehicle’s brake-caliper system.

Theft: A man reportedly pumped $40 worth of gasoline at McQuaid’s Service Center, 307 S. State St., but left without paying $28 of the amount.

Possible child endangerment: Police received information that a Girard woman may have struck her three children age 4 to 6 with hair brushes, spoons and her fist. An investigation was pending.

Menacing: A worker for a U.S. Route 422 gas station reported an irate man in his late 20s yelled at and caused her to fear for her safety.

Criminal mischief: A car in the 30 block of North State Street was found with deflated passenger-side tires and minor damage to that side.

Aggravated menacing: A Church Hill-Hubbard Road woman told authorities a former friend called threatening to kill the accuser or blow her up.

Menacing: Police responded to a neighbor dispute in which one man alleged the other had spied on him with binoculars. The other man said his neighbor had tossed sticks into his yard.

Animal complaint: A Trumbull Court man reported a dog belonging to the manager of his mobile-home park nearly bit his dog.

June 7

Assault: A couple told police a juvenile repeatedly punched a man during an argument at a high-school graduation party on Crumlin Avenue.

Drugs: Police seized a bag containing what appeared to be marijuana that had been found on a front porch in the 100 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road.

Complaint: A summons was to have been given to a Taylor Avenue woman after authorities received a complaint that her dog was loose and running at large.

LIBERTY

June 3

Theft: A cellphone and charger, an electronic-benefits-transfer card and other items were removed from a vehicle in the 1400 block of Townsend Avenue.

Theft: A student at Liberty High School, 1 Leopard Way, reported a $350 iPad device stolen.

Harassment: A Townsend Avenue man told officers a woman continually makes unwanted calls to his residence, steals from the accuser and has damaged his vehicle.

Theft: A 9 mm firearm valued at $350 was stolen from a residence in the 20 block of Trumbull Court.

Thefts: Authorities responded to similar thefts of air-conditioning units from House Doctors Window and Door Co. Inc., 998 Tibbetts-Wick Road, and the Gibson Insurance Agency Inc., 984 Tibbetts-Wick.

June 4

Arrest: Richard W. Lightner, 30, of Silliman Street, Youngstown, was picked up at the Mahoning County jail on an outstanding township warrant.

Theft: A hunting knife, 100 feet of nylon cord and a pocket knife were removed from a car in the 30 block of Goldie Road.

June 6

Arrest: Police responded to a suspected shoplifter at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, where they charged Jenice R. Haralson, 22, of Oak Street, Warren, with falsification, a first-degree misdemeanor. Haralson was accused of providing a false name to avoid being prosecuted for the theft, a report said.

Arrest: Members of the Mahoning County Violent Crimes Task Force took into custody 38-year-old Rushad E. Chambers on Tibbetts-Wick Road, then handed him to township authorities. Chambers, of Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a robbery warrant.

Burglary: To a residence in the 6600 block of Bel Air Drive after someone had pried open a side door. Among the items stolen were a microwave oven and a 42-inch flat-screen TV.

Arrest: The Ohio State Highway Patrol relinquished custody of Jennifer M. Forte, 18, to township authorities. Forte, of Holly Drive, Girard, was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

June 7

Arrest: Officers responded to a possible kidnapping situation in the 10 block of Trumbull Court before Youngstown police arrested 19-year-old Kalyn D. Sly of Pointview Street, Youngstown, and township authorities charged him with kidnapping and burglary. A woman alleged Sly, who also was wanted on a domestic-violence warrant, entered her apartment through a window, took their two infants while she was in another room and fled. Arrangements were being made for the woman to retrieve her children, a report showed.

Citation: Michael D. Smith, 47, of McBride Street, Youngstown, was cited on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired after having been pulled over on state Route 193.

Harassment: A Keefer Road woman said a 59-year-old Liberty woman has made unwanted calls to her.

Theft: A Northgate Drive man reported two $200 mountain bikes were taken from his backyard.

June 8

Arrests: Authorities responded to a woman possibly in distress in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue before taking into custody Eric J. Whetstone, 32, of North Park Avenue, Cortland, and Robert H. Whetstone, 58, same address. Both were wanted on Austintown warrants.

Identity fraud: A Sodom-Hutchings Road woman discovered her credit-card number had been used without consent to make $526 worth of purchases at a Colorado Springs, Colo., Walgreens store.

HUBBARD

June 2

Menacing: A West Liberty Street man and two other people alleged the man’s apartment manager barged in and threatened to have the complainants removed.

June 3

Arrest: A traffic stop on South Main Street resulted in the arrest of 35-year-old Lamar Walker of Atkinson Avenue, Youngstown, on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and operating a vehicle impaired. A Youngstown woman recovered her car, and Walker had a .240 blood-alcohol count, three times the legal limit, a report showed.

Theft: A Mackey Street man noticed a temporary tag missing from his truck.

June 4

Burglary: Took place in the 500 block of Ruth Drive via a side door. Stolen were $7,000 and two checkbooks.

Theft: A Jones Street girl reported her $300 iPhone stolen.

Theft: Connie L. Davidson, 39, of Hubbard Road, Youngstown, was charged with stealing mouthwash, toothpaste, body spray and deodorant from Dollar General, 886 W. Liberty St.

June 5

Incident: A woman told police that she allowed a woman claiming to represent Dominion East Ohio Gas Co. into the accuser’s Stewart Street home after the woman, who had arrived in a white pickup truck, claimed she needed to check the basement. The homeowner contacted authorities after learning of a similar situation in the township, though nothing appeared to be missing from the Stewart Street residence.
