Former McDonald standout wins NCAA hammer throw


— McDonald High graduate and current Kent State thrower Matthias Tayala won the hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on Thursday.

Tayala, a junior, had a winning throw of 73.57 meters (241 feet, 4 inches).

Youngstown State sophomore Connor Neu finished 15th in the hammer throw with a toss of 63.61 meters (208-8).
