GIRARD
The Cafaro Foundation is offering a one-year, $1,000 scholarship to any student from St. Stephen School in Niles or Immaculate Heart of Mary/St. Joseph School in Austintown who enrolls at St. Rose School in Girard.
The scholarship is available to as many students from the closed schools who wish to attend St. Rose, with no other restrictions.
“We would like to extend our warmest welcome to all those families who chose St. Rose School,” Principal Linda Borton said. “We will continue providing your children with an excellent academic education and spiritual formation so they can develop to their full potential.”
Monsignor John A. Zuraw, pastor of St. Rose, thanked the Cafaro Foundation for its commitment to Catholic education in the Diocese of Youngstown by helping families during this time of transition.
St. Rose has been educating the children of Girard and surrounding communities for more than 100 years. It provides education for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. All teachers are state certified. The school recently was renovated, and a new playground was installed. It offers a new computer lab, WiFi Internet and a variety of other technological updates. St. Rose teaches Catholic values through daily religion lessons and weekly Mass.

For more than a half-century, Cafaro, along with his wife, Alyce, and brother, John A. Cafaro, supported churches, schools, hospitals and other charitable causes.
Since its inception in 1996, the Cafaro Foundation has awarded millions of dollars in grants to organizations and individuals.
