Police found six marijuana plants in the backyard of a Himrod Avenue home about 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Officers were called to the home, and the homeowner, Jose Perez, 40, gave them permission to search. Reports said Perez told officers he was injured several years ago and uses marijuana to help him fight pain. Inside the house, police found lamps used to help grow marijuana, a pipe and a scale with marijuana residue, reports said.
Police cited Perez for cultivation of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Streets closing for run

Several downtown streets will close from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for the city’s Color Run.
The run starts and ends at the Covelli Centre.
Streets closed are: Walnut Street from Front to Federal streets, East Federal Street from Walnut to Boardman streets, Andrews Avenue from Federal Street to Rayen Avenue, Rayen Avenue from Andrews to Belmont avenues, Belmont Avenue from Rayen Avenue to Federal Street, Front Street from Federal to Walnut streets, and Market Street from Front Street to Ridge Avenue.
Veterans roundtable

State Rep. Connie Pillich, a Democrat from Montgomery County, an Air Force veteran and candidate for state treasurer, will host a veterans roundtable at noon Friday at AMVETS Post 44, 305 Elm St., to discuss issues facing the military community.
Topics will include challenges at Veterans Affairs hospitals; the upcoming application deadline for the Ohio Veterans’ bonus; and Pillich’s pending, bipartisan legislation guaranteeing unemployment compensation for military spouses.
Farmers market

The Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action and the Northside Farmers’ Market Youngstown are offering a farmers market in the MYCAP parking lot, 1325 Fifth Ave., weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays beginning this Thursday and Saturday and running through Oct. 23 and 25.
The market is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
Vendors will accept the Ohio Direction Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT card), Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and Senior Farmers’ Market coupons.
Also on Thursday, MYCAP will have a yard sale. The setup cost for vendors is $25 per week. For information about the Northside Farmers’ Market or the yard sale, call MYCAP at 330-747-7921.

The Guardian Angels of Ohio, a network of volunteers, will commemorate Ohio’s Elder Abuse Awareness Day on Friday by providing water bottles and elder-abuse literature to the ladies’ exercise class at the Niles SCOPE Center from 11 a.m. to noon.
Motorcycle show
GIRARD
The Girard Cruisers 2014 “Flag Day” Motorcycle and Care show will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Girard Municipal Parking lot, 100 N. Market St. The rain date is July 12.
Registration the day of the show is $15. Dash plaques, trophies and “Best in Show” awards are planned. Proceeds will benefit the Girard American Legion Post.
