Relay for Life
AUSTINTOWN
The Austintown American Cancer Society Relay For Life will take place from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday at Austintown Township Park, 6000 Kirk Road.
The financial goal of this year’s event, which begins with opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. Friday followed by the Survivor Lap and a Survivors Dinner in Stacy Pavilion, is $125,000 to be used for research, education, local patient services and advocacy.
There will be a ceremony at 9:45 p.m. Friday at which the track will be lined with luminarias marked with the names of those who survived and those who lost their battle with cancer.
The event also will have music, live entertainment featuring The Rage, games and other activities. For information, call Erin Glista at 888-227-6446.
Authority to meet
VIENNA
The Western Reserve Port Authority will have its monthly meeting at 3 p.m. today at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
The port authority will not have any committee meetings in June. It normally has three committee meetings each month — aviation, economic-development and administration.
The port authority has no chairman because the former chairman, Atty. James Floyd, resigned effective at the end of the board’s last meeting, May 21. Two other recent vacancies also have not been filled.
The commissioners from Mahoning and Trumbull counties have discussed dissolving the board because of infighting among some of the eight board members.
