No arrest yet in Boardman homicide

BOARDMAN

No one is in custody in a homicide investigation in the township, but there are a few people police are looking at.

Sgt. Rick Balog said police "received a 911 call on Sunday afternoon that a male had committed suicide."

Once at the residence on Alverne Drive, police did not locate a weapon and "found the male victim to have facial wounds possibly created to hide the original wound," Balog said.

Chris Craft, 48, is suspected to have died around noon Sunday according to police and the coroners office.

Authorities suspect possibly a knife with a straight blade was used to hide how Craft died.

The home has been released to the family after Boardman police processed the crime scene with the help of state agents.

The 911 tape is not going to be released yet and the search warrant for the residence Monday is also unavailable to the media.

Balog said police are expecting to make an arrest in the case and the arrest time depends on how long the investigation takes.

This is the township's first homicide since October 2012. Michael A. Spera, 38 of Youngstown, was shot and killed after breaking into the home of Kevin Neal at 5011 Lockwood Blvd. Neal claimed self-defense in the home invasion.
