The city will spray for mosquitoes today, beginning after 8 p.m.

The spray is safe for people and pets, said service director Dan Livingston. He asks, however, that people with breathing problems keep their windows closed. Spraying will be citywide.

Body found in quarry

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Rescue crews recovered a man’s body from a quarry on South Eric Drive in Mahoning Township late Monday night.

The New Castle Fire Department said some department members went to the site about 8 p.m. A Mahoning Township police official told a local TV station the body was recovered about 9:30 p.m. The name of the man was unavailable by press time late Monday.

Fraud awareness info

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Department of Job and Family Services will share information about fraud awareness and initiatives working with the county sheriff’s office, state and local law enforcement, state fraud personnel, state and county agencies and community organizations to stop public-assistance fraud. The groups meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the auditorium of Oakhill Renaissance Building, 345 Oak Hill Ave.

New cruisers

GIRARD

The city’s police department will buy two new cruisers and two new unmarked cars.

City council passed legislation at its Monday meeting allowing for the purchase.

The city is buying the cruisers from Greenwood Chevrolet for $60,000 for both and the unmarked cars from Klaben Ford for $48,000 for both. The cars are fully equipped.

The city is buying the cars through the state cooperative purchasing program. The state establishes a dealer price, and the city buys the cars from a dealer at that price without having to solicit bids, said Mayor Jim Melfi.

Drug offenses

WARREN

Two teens were charged with drug offenses after police responded to a complaint that drug dealing was occurring on the top level of the Franklin Street Parking Deck a block west of the police station at 9:02 p.m. Saturday.

Delquan D. Ware, 18, of Linda Drive Northwest, was charged with misdemeanor drug abuse or possession. JaTavion D. Powell, 19, of Clearwater Street Northwest, was charged with misdemeanor drug abuse or possession after police found suspected marijuana in his pocket.
