Hubbard woman tricked, robbed of $7K

HUBBARD — Police are still seeking a man who stole $7,000 from an elderly woman by tricking her to gain access to her house.

The incident happened at 1 p.m. last Wednesday in the 500 block of Ruth Street, police reported.

A man dressed in a vest and a hard hat approached the woman in her yard and told her he was in the area doing work. He said he had to “fix her pipes.”

They went into her house. He looked under her sink, then they walked outside behind her garage. They used a tape measure to measure from her house to a ditch in her backyard.

Pretending to need a pencil, the man left her there. After about 10 minutes, she went into her house to discover $7,000 and two bank check books missing from a lock box. She called police.
