Girard to buy new police cars

GIRARD — The city’s police department will buy two new police cruisers and two new unmarked cars.

City council passed legislation at its meeting tonight allowing for the purchase.

The city is buying the cruisers from Greenwood Chevrolet for $60,000 for both, and the unmarked cars from Klaben Ford for $48,000 for both. The cars are fully equipped.

The city is buying the cars through the state cooperative purchasing program. The state establishes a dealer price, and the city buys the cars from a dealer at that price without having to solicit bids, said Mayor Jim Melfi.
