Strollo Architects wins national award

Strollo Architects and Kimberly S. Jansen, its interior designer, received this year’s National American Society of Interior Designers’ Elevate Award in the institutional category for work on a $5.4 million renovation and expansion of Columbiana School District’s Joshua Dixon Elementary School.

The Elevate Awards recognize those who contribute to the interior-design profession through work that enhances people’s lives. The award will be presented June 21 in Los Angeles. Strollo Architects is based in Youngstown.

Idora Park presentation

“Idora Park: The Last Ride of Summer,” will be the topic of a 7 p.m. Tuesday presentation at the Dale Shaffer Library, 239 S. Lundy Ave. The talk will be given by Rick Shale, co-author of the book bearing that title, at the Salem Historical Society’s monthly meeting. The Youngstown amusement park operated from 1899 to 1984.

Crash victim ID’d

HANOVERTON

The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the woman who died in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 30 as Kathlean Kennedy, 25, of Massillon.

The Friday accident at 2:27 p.m. near Mile Post 11 happened when Kennedy’s 2010 Ford Fusion, traveling westbound, crossed the center line and hit a 1998 Allegro motor home driven by Robert Lausted, 44, of Bronson, Texas, who was eastbound, the patrol said.

Kennedy’s 1-year-old daughter was in a child safety seat in the rear passenger side when the accident occurred. The child was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital by medical helicopter and is listed in stable condition, the patrol said.

Spelling bee planned

The annual Trumbull County Fair spelling bee, sponsored by Trumbull County Retired Teachers, will be at 1 p.m. July 10 at Trumbull County Fairgrounds.

It is open to the public and for students in grades one to eight. Pre-registration continues through June 20. Pre-registered spellers will receive free admission to the fair. JCC bus trip to ‘Evita’

The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, is sponsoring a bus trip to Pittsburgh to see the musical “Evita.”

The bus will leave the center at 3 p.m. July 13 and return at 10:30 p.m. The cost is $67 for center members and $77 for nonmembers. You are responsible for your dinner. Dog-license fine forgiveness available

HOWLAND

The Trumbull County Dog Kennel, on Anderson Drive, will offer license-fine forgiveness days June 17-19. The fee to renew an expired license will be $18 instead of $18 plus an $18 fine.

The dog kennel will be open only until 11:30 a.m. June 18.

Also, rabies clinics will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. June 18 at the following locations: Champion Township garage, Bristol Township Garage, Cortland City Garage, Newton Township Garage on Arlington Street in Newton Falls and Waddell Park in Niles.

The fee is $15, and only cash will be accepted. If the owner brings a previous rabies vaccination certificate for that animal, the new rabies booster will be good for three years instead of one.

Silent auction

A rain-barrel silent auction to benefit the Howland High School Art Club will continue through June 20. Howland High students hand-painted barrels, and they can be viewed at the Howland Township Administration Building, 205 Niles-Cortland Road SE, where bids will be accepted 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through June 20.
