Volant Mills '2nd Saturday' salutes National Farm Month

VOLANT, PA.

Volant Mills “2nd Saturday” event, from 10 a.m. 5 p.m. Saturday at the Volant Mills, 550 Main St., features a full day of activities to celebrate National Farm Month.

There will be Amish doughnuts and homemade breads, fresh-churned ice cream, homemade cookies, jams, jellies and pies as well as local honey, produce, cheeses and other fresh off the farm products.

Many shops are pet friendly, so participants can bring their dogs and cats.

There will also be live goats and live beehive demonstrations to learn how bees help sustain crops. A restored antique tractor will be on display as well as Amish textiles. Local artisans will craft their various wares.

Other activities include: square dancers and cloggers with Len Dougherty from noon to 2 p.m.; making and tasting farm fresh butter from Mercer Co. Conservation-Munnell Farm, 1 to 2p.m.; horse-drawn covered wagon rides, 1 to 4p.m.; and the folk guitar stylings of Rick Bruening, 2 to 5 p.m.
