Filipino organization to mark independence

GIRARD

Filipino-American Organization of Northeastern Ohio will celebrate Philippine Independence Day and a coronation of Miss Maria Clara at 6 p.m. Friday at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St.

The candidates are Tina Wilkerson, Amaya Nsubuga and Krysna Fang.

The celebration is a fundraising dinner dance event for the Filipino Youth Scholarship Fund. Miss Maria Clara 2013, Caila Quinn, will perform the coronation and deliver the keynote address.

Guests of all cultures are welcome. It will be a formal-Filipiniana attire event.

The dinner will feature traditional food, and entertainment will include Filipino songs and dances. DJ Joe Espino will entertain.

The chairwoman is Anne Cubarrubia, and the co-chairs are Lei Hawkins and Rose Barredo. President Alwyn Galela is the overall chairman.
