Four out of the elite eight of the Triple Crown Sports regional baseball tournament at Cene Park this weekend are Youngstown Class B teams.
The four local teams still left in play are the Astro Falcons, Bel-Park Pharmacy, Creekside Fitness and the Ohio Glaciers.
The quarterfinals are scheduled to begin today at 9 a.m.
Jackson wins Division I state baseball title

Sixty-seven years after its only other appearance in the baseball state final four (1947), Massillon Jackson claimed its first baseball state championship defeating North Royalton, 5-1, in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I baseball final Saturday afternoon at Huntington Park.
In other championship games, Coldwater claimed its sixth baseball state title with a 4-2 win over Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy in Division III; Bloom-Carroll had 12 hits in a 9-0 romp over Jonathan Alder in Division II; and Defiance Tinora beat defending champion Newark Catholic, 4-3, in Division IV.
Hoover captures fourth straight softball title

Third-ranked North Canton Hoover jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning over eighth-ranked Grove City and never looked back on its way to the OHSAA Division I softball state championship Saturday at Firestone Stadium. The title is the fourth in a row for the Vikings (29-3) and eighth overall.
In other title games, the Division II game went 14 innings, the longest in OHSAA softball tournament history, before Williamsport Westfall recorded a 1-0 victory over Bloom-Carroll; Cuyahoga Heights posted a walk-off 2-1 victory over Minster in Division IV; and Lima Bath topped Jonathan Alder 7-2 in Division II.
Carpenter holds on for IndyCar win in Texas
FORT WORTH, Texas
Driver-owner Ed Carpenter, now driving only on ovals, won the IndyCar Series race Texas on Saturday night after staying in front of Will Power during a two-lap shootout after a late caution. On the final green-flag stop with 35 laps left, Carpenter beat polesitter and season points leader Power off pit road. Team Penske driver Power made things worse when he was penalized for speeding out of the pits.
US women take 9-2 lead in Curtis Cup

UCLA’s Alison Lee helped the United States move within 11/2 points of regaining the Curtis Cup, winning two matches Saturday at rainy St. Louis Country Club. The Americans pushed their advantage to 9-2 over Britain and Ireland, with one foursomes matches still to be completed and eight singles matches left Sunday in the biennial competition.
Altidore scores twice, US beats Nigeria 2-1
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
Jozy Altidore scored a pair of goals to lead the United States over Nigeria 2-1 Saturday night in the Americans’ World Cup send-off match. Altidore tapped in Fabian Johnson’s cross in the 31st minute, stopping a 27-match scoreless streak for club and country with his first goal since Dec. 4 for Sunderland against Chelsea. He doubled the lead in the 68th, running onto Michael Bradley’s looping 30-yard pass over the defense.
AP sources provide detail to Clippers’ deal
LOS ANGELES
Los Angeles Clippers co-owner Shelly Sterling would remain close to the organization under terms of the pending sale to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, according to two individuals close to the negotiations. However, the NBA made clear Shelly Sterling wouldn’t be involved with the basketball franchise.
But it’s unclear if this deal will ever materialize as Donald Sterling still had not signed off on the deal’s terms because the NBA would not agree to revoke its $2.5 million fine and lifetime ban, according to one of the individuals.
