Education event about circumcision

SHARON, PA.

Members of Intact Ohio plan to gather on the north side of Sharon Regional Health Center from 1 to 3 p.m. today to demonstrate and educate the region about the harms of forced genital cutting. There will be educational literature available on the dangers of routine infant circumcision as well as proper care of the intact, noncircumcised child, said Olivia Chovan, co-director of Intact Ohio. Chovan recommends the websites savingsons.org and DrMomma.org to people who want to learn more about circumcision.

1 killed, baby injured

HANOVERTON

A woman died and an infant was hospitalized in a two-vehicle crash that shut down a portion of U.S. Route 30 in Columbiana County, according to the Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV. State troopers are investigating the 2:30 p.m. Friday crash, about one mile east of Hanoverton near Lindesmith Road. Preliminary reports indicate the car went left of center and struck a recreational vehicle from Texas. The infant in the car was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital. Names of the victims were not available Friday night. There were no reports that anyone inside the RV was injured.

Man faces charges

CAMPBELL

City police arrested a 24-year-old Youngstown man on multiple charges — including felony possession of cocaine — after a Thursday traffic stop.

Alexander K. Henderson of West Scott Street also is charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and was cited for driving under suspension and for having an open container of alcohol in his car. His total bond was set at $9,000, 10 percent cash or surety, in Campbell Municipal Court on Friday.

Police stopped Henderson shortly after noon Thursday after a random registration check revealed he had a suspended driver’s license. He was placed under arrest, and police found 3.4 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a half-empty bottle of alcohol and $318 in cash in his car. At the Campbell Police Department, officers also found a bag containing suspected marijuana in his possession.

Swimming lessons

WARREN

American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is offering swimming lessons at the Warren G. Harding High School pool this month and in July for children age 3-12. Children need not attend Warren schools to participate.

The cost is $30 per student per session. Payment is requested before the first day of class. There are four two-week sessions: Monday through June 19; June 23-July 3; July 7-17; and July 21-31. Class times are: 12:30-1:15 p.m., Levels 1 and 3; 1:25-2:10 p.m., Levels 2 and 4; and 2:15-3 p.m., Levels 5 and 6 and preschool. Preschool programs require an adult in the water with the child. Registration forms are available at Warren Schools Administration Building, Warren Harding main office, American Red Cross, or forms can be downloaded from Warren schools’ website. Crash kills former Austintown resident

AUSTINTOWN

A former Austintown woman died and her husband and another man were severely injured Thursday afternoon in a head-on crash in Pickerington, police there said. Pickerington is near Columbus. Margaret Corbett, 82, died at OhioHealth Grant Medical, and her husband, Donald Corbett Sr., 79, is in stable condition at the medical facility.They are the parents of Don Corbett Jr., a former Austintown police officer. According to the Columbus Dispatch, Pickerington police hadn’t released the name of a 19-year-old also injured and in stable condition at the hospital. The crash occurred about 4:45 p.m., when the Corbetts’ car was traveling north in the 8800 block of Diley Road. The southbound pickup truck crossed the center line and struck the car, said Sgt. Robert Bartek of the Pickerington police.

The police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating.

Death ruled suicide

WARREN

A 34-year-old resident of the Plaza View Apartments behind Giant Eagle on Elm Road was found dead in a flower bed beside the apartments at 7:40 a.m. Thursday after apparently falling from the eighth floor. The woman’s death was ruled a suicide.
