NOW Youngstown, in cooperation with C.I.R.V. (Community Initiative to Reduce Violence) Project, will conduct 13 community-based outreach programs. The events will feature music, testimonies, drama and mime, dance, carnival games, food and displays by various service providers. Though the events have a light-hearted approach through activities, the serious mission is to “Increase the Peace.” Crime and violence will be reduced when people in neighborhoods build relationships.

Orientation and training: Orientation, registration and training for volunteers will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Fellowship Church, 4749 South Ave., Youngstown. Training for prayer and altar workers will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Metro Assembly of God, 2530 South Ave., Youngstown.

Prayer meeting: A citywide prayer meeting is planned for 6:30 p.m. June 16 at Metro Assembly.

Unity service and picnic: Planned at 2 p.m. Aug. 24 at Arlington Heights Community Center.

Increase the Peace rallies, most scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays in Youngstown unless otherwise noted, are:

June 17: Victory Estates, 690 Magnolia Ave., on the East Side.

June 24: Heart Reach Ministries, 211 Rodondo Road, on the North Side.

June 28, Saturday: Salvation Army, 1501 Glenwood Ave., on the South Side.

July 1: Hillman and Warren streets on the South Side.

July 8: Taft Elementary School, 730 E. Avondale Ave., on the South Side, with Holy Ground walk at 5:15 p.m. Other walks will be scheduled.

July 15: Kirwan Homes, 101 Jackson St., Campbell.

July 22: Borts Field, South Belle Vista Ave., on the West Side.

July 29: Arlington Heights, Wirt Street, on the North Side.

Aug. 5: ESA Park Apartments, 1110 Kendis Circle, on the East Side.

Aug. 12: Rockford Village, 1402 Dogwood Drive, on the East Side.

Aug. 23, Saturday: Book bag giveaway from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. downtown.

Aug. 26: Metro Assembly on the South Side.

Sept. 6, Saturday: Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood St., on the South Side.

Service providers: Teen Challenge, Pregnancy Help Center, Heart Reach Ministries, Salvation Army and TRIO of Eastern Gateway Community College, which provides programs to increase access to higher education for economically disadvantaged students.
