Counselor indicted
CLEVELAND
A federal grand jury has indicted a correctional counselor, who worked at a Youngstown prison, on a charge of sexual abuse of a ward, the U.S. attorney said.
The charge was lodged against Nicole White, 34, of Boardman, who purportedly engaged in sex acts in October 2013 with a federal inmate at the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center.
The case was investigated by the inspector general’s office at the U.S. Department of Justice and by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons and is being prosecuted by David M. Toepfer, the Youngstown-based assistant U.S. attorney.
Fire ruled arson
YOUNGSTOWN
Reports say a fire at a vacant 141 E. Delason Ave. home about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday is an arson.
The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and they set up in a defensive position to protect other homes, reports said.
Damage is listed at $5,900. There were no injuries.
Meeting planned
YOUNGSTOWN
Frackfree Mahoning Valley will have a public town hall-style meeting to discuss the newly permitted radioactive waste-facility operation located in the city from 7 to 9 p.m. today at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1105 Elm St.
The facility, whose operation was permitted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, plans to accept and process potentially radioactive fracking waste related to shale gas and oil development.
Motorcyclist killed
EAST LIVERPOOL
The Lisbon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said a man was killed in a motorcycle accident about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. Route 30.
The patrol said Ronald L. Burns, 63, of Warren, was riding east on his motorcycle west of the state Route 170 exit in St. Clair Township when the motorcycle overturned on the roadway. Burns fell onto the side of the road and the motorcycle struck the wall in the median, reports said.
Theft investigated
BOARDMAN
Police are investigating the theft of a woman’s purse after she left it in a shopping cart.
According to a police report, a woman was loading her groceries from Sam’s Club, 6361 South Ave., into her car while talking on the phone and left the parking lot about 1:20 p.m. About 20 minutes later, she realized she didn’t have her purse.
Upon returning to Sam’s, surveillance video showed a teenager taking the purse from the shopping cart and entering a vehicle with an older female as the driver.
Sidewalk closing

The sidewalk and front area of Warehouse 50, 47 W. Federal St., will be closed for the “Party on the Plaza” event from 4 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday.
