Boardman officials investigating arson

BOARDMAN

Police and fire officials are investigating an overnight fire for arson. Firefighters arrived at 7465 Glenwood Avenue at 11:18 p.m. Wednesday. Once on scene, fire crews found heavy smoke and visible flames with a neighbor using a dry chemical extinguisher.

The fire originated at the base of the exterior siding and never extended inside the home, according to a fire report. The police report identified a south entry door near the garage as the likely origin of the fire.

Both fire and police reports identify the home as being in foreclosure.

At 12:41 a.m. Thursday, police took an arson report from fire officials, according to a police report.

A neighbor told authorities that they saw a car leave a home across the street from the fire when the neighbor first smelled smoke.

The home has sat vacant for about six months and Citi Mortgage, Inc. of Missouri had a foreclosure case in Mahoning County Court last year. Authorities also found mortgage paperwork inside the home while they were trying to identify the current owner.

Boardman authorities are still investigating.
