YOUNGSTOWN

A Campbell man was sentenced to four years in prison after he pleaded guilty to participating in a criminal gang.

Graylyn Folmar, 24, of Monroe Street, drew the sentence Tuesday from visiting Judge Thomas Pokorny of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Folmar will get credit for the 296 days he’s already been jailed. He will be on probation for three years after prison.

A grand jury last August handed up indictments against 13 purported members of the gang, known as the Vic Boyz.

Police and prosecutors say they were responsible for dealing drugs in the vicinity of the Victory Arms housing project on Youngstown’s East Side and were known for using violence to protect their territory.

The purported leader of the gang, Adam Christian, 23, was slain on Woodcrest Avenue in 2011, and three men are awaiting trial in his death.

Folmar was one of three gang members to plead guilty in April.

The other two, Curtis Jones and DeVonte Gilmore, both 21, were each sentenced to eight years in prison to run concurrently with their 12-year prison terms for manslaughter in the March 2011 shooting death of De’Vail Fleeton, 16, on the East Side.

Another defendant, Phillip Anderson, 23, pleaded guilty to heroin and cocaine trafficking and participating in a criminal gang and drew a six-year prison term in May.

The case of one additional defendant, Darrel Mason, 24, is still pending, with a Friday pre-trial hearing and a scheduled June 23 jury trial.

“I promise, Your Honor, I’ll come back a different man,” after prison, Folmar told Judge Pokorny.

“Good. It’s a good start anyway,” the judge replied.

Judge Pokorny advised Folmar to be careful in the future about who he associates with and what he puts into his body.
