SUV driver cited; passenger runs away

Police cited a man early Monday who has nine open suspensions on his license, but a passenger in his car ran from officers and was not caught.
Leighland Johnson, 28, of Inverness Avenue, was cited for driving under suspension after an SUV he was driving was pulled over about 12:30 a.m. on East Delason Avenue. Officers were investigating another call in the area when they saw the SUV speeding toward them and pulled it over in the drive of a vacant home.
The passenger jumped out and was not found. Reports said Johnson told officers he did not know the name of the man in the car who ran away.
Case sent to grand jury
AUSTINTOWN
A woman who admitted shooting her husband waived her preliminary hearing Monday night, sending her case to a Mahoning County grand jury.
Margaret Tucker, 54, of 51 S. Edgehill Ave., was in Mahoning County Court on one charge of felonious assault in the shooting of her 61-year-old husband, Harry Tucker, at their home May 6.
The grand jury decides probable cause, and if there is, an indictment is issued. The couple had a dispute that night, and Tucker’s second shot hit her husband in his lower abdomen, a police report says.
Car windows smashed
youngstown
Police reports say a 41-year-old South Side woman’s car windows were smashed by a man who was one of several people in a procession of cars chasing her early Monday.
Police were called to the 200 block of Ellenwood Avenue about 2:10 a.m. for a report of a rolling argument, and when they arrived, a woman said she was chased home by people in several cars after a person in her SUV said something to another female at a Boardman skating rink.
The woman said one of the cars hit her rear bumper, and when she stopped, someone got out of that car and smashed her windows, reports said.
Some of the cars that were thought to be involved in the dispute were stopped at Gibson and Lee avenues, reports said. The woman in the car was told to consult with the prosecutor’s office if she wanted to file charges.
More vandalism
BOARDMAN
A vandal or vandals continued a pattern of defacing township property over the weekend.
According to a police report, graffiti was spray-painted on a Swaneck Industries building on Simon Road sometime between 9 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday. It was reported to police at 2:25 p.m. Saturday.
The building’s east wall had a triangle spray-painted in white paint with the words “De La Funk” and “Face” in black paint. The business does have surveillance cameras, but poor lighting resulted in a poor outcome of identifying the culprit or culprits.
Graffiti was painted on a Boardman welcome sign during Memorial Day weekend. One of the township’s middle-school buildings also had black spray- paint on it earlier this year.
