Grant announced to clean up property
NILES
State Rep. Sean J. O’Brien of Bazetta, D-63rd, announced Monday a $634,680 Clean Ohio Assistance Fund grant for the former Republic Steel property in Niles.
The grant will be used for environmental cleanup of the property to prepare it for further redevelopment.
Since 2004, BRT Extrusions has invested in the Niles property as an onsite aluminum-extrusion business.
The funds will be used for cleanup activities to remedy previous contamination and protect current upgrades at the property.
After cleanup activities, BRT Extrusions will install and upgrade infrastructure and develop new employee workspace, warehouse space and shipping/receiving dock areas.
The grant will help create 15 full-time jobs.
BRT Extrusions will contribute $212,281 in matching dollars for infrastructure activities.
