New play can be heard at Victorian

YOUNGSTOWN

A new play by local actor-playwright Terry Shears will get an open reading at 2 p.m. Saturday at Victorian Players, 702 Mahoning Ave.

Titled “Role with the Punches,” the two-act farce set in real time revolves around the backstage bickering of the fictional Smokestack Players of Youngstown, as the troupe struggles to put on the Victorian melodrama “Miss Weevil’s Whimsy.” Incompetence, stage egos and a healthy dose of the unexpected combine to make the company’s production an utter catastrophe.

The cast, some playing dual roles, includes Molly Galano, Tom O’Donnell, Craig Conrad, Elizabeth Conrad, Rachael Conrad, Carson Conrad, Anthony “Coot” Madison, Dylan White and Miranda Canacci.

The event is free and open to the public, with audience members encouraged to submit comments, suggestions and ideas.
