Hubbard 4th Ward councilman will resign

Fourth Ward Councilman Danny Havalo told his fellow council members he is resigning.

Havalo made the announcement at a caucus before the council’s regular meeting Monday, citing increased work responsibilities as the reason.

Havalo said he regrets leaving council, but he recently took another position within his company that is going to require a lot more traveling. He is an environmental engineer with U.S. Steel Corp. in Pittsburgh.

He will now write a letter to the Trumbull County Board of Elections, which will in turn officially notify the council, said council President Bill Williams.

Council will then vote to accept the resignation.

The 4th Ward Democratic Precinct committeemen choose a successor to finish Havalo’s two-year term, which began in January, Williams said.

His resignation will be effective July 1.

Havalo is in his second term. He won his first term in 2011 just after graduating from Ohio State University.

He has been attending council meetings since he was 13 years old, he said.

He said that during that time, he’s seen that the city has the ability to work as a team.

“There’s a great administration and a great council and a lot of cooperation,” he said.
