The Youngstown Area Federation of Women’s Clubs Inc. met May 21 for its annual scholarship and awards luncheon at Tippecanoe Country Club, 5870 Tippecanoe Road.

Karyssa Cortez was awarded a $2,000 scholarship. She is a nontraditional student who will return to college this fall. Scholarship committee members were Valorie Zurawick, Patty Higgins and Barbara Geller.

Carol Baird received the community service award for her outstanding contribution in music and dance education to students for more than 42 years in Youngs- town City Schools. She formed The Youngstown Connection in 1988, and the song-and-dance group has since traveled and performed throughout the United States and in nine countries.

Elva Easton presented the Federation Woman of the Year award to Dorothy Sch- wers, a member of the club for 53 years. Schwers was a music teacher in Youngstown schools. Her former student Sean Baran, who recently received his master’s degree from YSU’s Dana School of Music, provided music for the event.

Easton and Ann Hill installed the officers for 2014-2015. They are Catherine Campana, president; Suzanne Brown, vice president; Barbara Higgins, second vice president; Pat Sullivan, third vice president; Mary Witkowski, recording secretary; Debra Kostelic, corresponding secretary; and Lee Bowden, treasurer.

Rusti Puromaki is immediate past president.
