Ohio Star Quilters of Howland S.C.O.P.E. invite the public to a free program at 10 a.m. June 18 at Howland S.C.O.P.E., 8273 High St. The speaker is Deputy Warden Barbara King from Lorraine Correctional Institution in Grafton, Ohio. The topic is a new quilt/sewing program started at the Grafton facility. King oversees a program in which the women inmates are taught how to quilt and the quilts are auctioned for charity to help disadvantaged children. Donations of fabric, batting, thread, rotary cutters and other items that can be used in the outreach program will be welcomed. Although the program and the luncheon are free, Ohio Star Quilters asks that donations of something related to quilting be taken to the event.
