“Unnecessary Farce,SDRq directed by David El’Hatton, Salem Community Theater, 490 E. State St., auditions 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Needed are six actors, four men, roughly age 20 to 50, and three women approximately age 20 to 40. Rehearsals begin first week of August, and performances will be weekends Sept. 12-21. “Walk Abreast,SDRq Victorian Players, Victorian Players Theater, 702 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, auditions 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday. The play is the story a woman’s breast-cancer diagnosis and how she, her family and friends deal with it. Needed are five women age 18-55 and 2 men, age 18-55, and those auditioning will be asked to read from the original script. Rehearsals begin Aug. 18 and will take place in the evenings. “Violet,SDRq directed by Edward Kuntzman, Carnation City Players, Firehouse Theater, 450 E. Market St., Alliance, open call auditions at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Auditionees are asked to prepare 32 bars of music in the style of the show; an accompanist will be provided, no a capella. Headshots and resumes are appreciated but not required. Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition. No appointments are necessary. Age 13 and older only, please. The production in particular is seeking African-American actors to portray the role of Flick, a soldier, and a gospel soloist who also doubles as a landlady and a woman knitting. The musical is set in the deep South during the Civil Rights Movement, and follows a young woman’s quest for beauty amid the image-obsessed landscape of the 1960s. The namesake character was facially disfigured in a childhood accident, and dreams of a miraculous transformation through the power of faith; she hopes a televangelist in Oklahoma can heal her and travels there on Greyhound bus, finding unlikely friendships during her trip. Performances are Oct. 10-11 and 17-19, with Friday and Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.

“Amahl and the Night Visitors,SDRq Area Community Theatre of Sharpsville and Valley Lyric Opera, 100 N. Mercer Ave., Suite B, Sharpsville, Pa., 724-815-4388, open auditions 7 p.m. Monday at Pierce Opera House, 100 N. Mercer Ave., Sharpsville, for boys or girl sopranos age 9 to 15, to play the role of Amahl; come prepared to vocalize and demonstrate musical range. Performances will take place Jan. 16-18. “Love, Loss, and What I Wore” and “Gin Game,” Selah Restaurant, 130 S. Bridge St., Struthers, auditions 7 p.m. Wednesday in the restaurant’s upstairs theatre space. Needed for “Love, Loss, and What I Wore” are six women of various ages and body types; performances will be Feb. 20-21 and 27-28. For “Gin Game,” one female who can play age 70; performances will be May 1-2 and 8-9.
