A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
July 20
Identity fraud: A Poland woman discovered a $175 unauthorized purchase had been made when she reviewed her debit-account information online.
July 22
Arrest: A 16-year-old township boy was taken into custody at the Struthers Police Department after surrendering on a pick-up order from the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center in Youngstown.
July 23
Theft: A township woman reported a $1,000 engagement ring and another piece of jewelry stolen from her residence.
Complaint: A Four Seasons Trail resident reported a temporary-protection order had been violated.
July 25
Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Youngstown man said his vehicle had been used without permission while in the 5400 block of Center Road.
July 27
Arrest: A traffic stop near U.S. Route 224 and Shawbutte Avenue resulted in the arrest of 25-year-old Cory V. Williams of Bonnie Brae Drive Northeast, Warren, who was wanted on a Boardman warrant charging theft.
Harassment: A Ridgley Park Drive woman reported a man was harassing her.
BOARDMAN
July 24
Arrest: Authorities received a tip that a woman with a disability had been assaulted at a business on Tiffany Boulevard before charging 36-year-old Marvinla I. Oliver of Woodview Avenue Southwest, Warren, with assault by a caretaker on a functionally impaired person, a fourth-degree felony. The accuser showed police a scratch and possible bruising near her left eye, and witnesses reported having seen the person being struck, a report showed.
Criminal mischief: Someone wrapped plastic wrap around a vehicle at a Boardman-Canfield Road fast-food restaurant.
Menacing: A Sheridan Road man alleged his son’s girlfriend called and threatened several times to kill him. The accuser also received threatening text messages, he reported.
Theft: A man in his 40s or 50s stole an electronic memo pad from Game Stop, 1222 Doral Drive.
Theft: A man removed a $429 camera from a display rack at Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Misuse of a credit card: A Mapleridge Avenue man noticed $340 missing from his debit-card account, the result of three unauthorized withdrawals.
Theft: A Leighton Avenue man discovered $16,800 worth of jewelry and money missing from his home.
Attempted theft: A woman reportedly tried to steal a $4 stick of deodorant from Dollar General, 8573 Market St.
Fraud: A Brookfield Avenue woman wanting to sell items online for $430 told police she received a $1,500 check, with an Omaha, Neb., address on it, from Sacramento, Calif., with instructions to send the remaining $1,070 to someone in Bastrop, La. Before selling any merchandise, the woman’s bank warned her that the check likely was fraudulent, a police report said.
Theft: An employee with an East Western Reserve Road gas station alleged a co-worker took an undisclosed sum of money from a cash register.
Theft: A $100 ceramic bird bath was removed from a yard in the 1900 block of Wolosyn Circle.
July 25
Aggravated menacing: After responding to an argument between two drivers near U.S. Route 224 and Market Street, authorities charged 41-year-old Timothy J. Kubala of Midwood Circle, Boardman, with aggravated menacing. The other motorist and a passenger reported that a firearm was pointed at them from the other vehicle and that the driver also threatened to shoot them.
Assault: A worker for an East Western Reserve Road business told authorities a co-worker pulled her hair and punched her face during a confrontation apparently related to disparaging comments the accuser felt had been directed toward her.
Robbery: A loss-prevention official with Home Depot, 7001 Southern Blvd., reported a man age 21 to 28 in a black shirt, shorts and a beard pushed him to the ground, resulting in a scraped knee, as the official tried to apprehend the shoplifter after a small piece of landscaping equipment was stolen.
Theft: Someone took $367.50 worth of groceries from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Truck theft: A 2013 Ford F-150 truck was stolen in the 5500 block of Sharon Drive.
Drugs: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 224 led to the arrest of Christina M. Habbe, 20, on a felony drug-abuse charge, one misdemeanor count each of possession of dangerous drugs and drug abuse, and minor-misdemeanor citations charging her with drug-abuse (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Habbe, of Knollwood Avenue, Poland, had papers commonly used to roll marijuana, a pill bottle with a small quantity of suspected marijuana and a bag with 11 pills, a report stated.
Stolen property: Officers responded to a report of someone trying to return stolen merchandise to the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall, then charged 29-year-old Marla M. Bryner of South Portland Avenue, Youngstown, with one misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property. Earlier, a woman reported a bag containing two shirts, two pairs of jeans and a T-shirt had been stolen.
Theft: Police booked Matthew J. Sharp, 33, of Chris Avenue, Washingtonville, via phone on two felony theft charges. Sharp was accused of scamming two Lemans Drive residents after reportedly getting one victim to give him money while claiming to be a Youngstown State University senior who was selling textbooks as part of a contest. The university confirmed no such event had taken place, a police report showed.
Theft: A Youngstown boy, 13, was accused of stealing a $10 men’s T-shirt from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.
Theft: Police charged 27-year-old John J. Dimick Jr. after alleging Dimick, of Adams Street, Campbell, had stolen three pairs of men’s jeans and a wallet from Walmart.
Theft: A 15-year-old Boardman girl was accused of stealing a box of fake fingernails from Dollar General, 4996 Market St.
July 26
Assault: A Shadyside Drive man told officers his girlfriend’s former boyfriend head-butted him during an argument, resulting in redness to the affected area.
Attempted burglary: Someone cut a rear-window screen in an effort to break into a home in the 4200 block of Oak Knoll Drive.
Domestic violence: Daniel R. McVeigh, 24, of Darian, Ill., was charged with the crime after his sister alleged an intoxicated McVeigh had punched her face during an argument he was having with her and other family members at a South Avenue motel.
Theft: Two men in their late 20s or early 30s stole a toolkit and an air-conditioning unit from Lowe’s, 1100 Doral Drive.
Theft: A woman reported a microwave-oven stand, two racks and two other items missing while moving to a residence in the 4400 block of South Avenue.
Theft: An employee for a Doral Drive big-box store left work and noticed that his car battery had been stolen.
Drugs: Susan R. Ferry, 37, of South Glenwood Avenue, Niles, was charged with possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia after having been pulled over near Hillman Way. Ferry, who also was wanted on a warrant, had two hypodermic needles, a spoon with suspected heroin residue and a pipe for drug use, police said.
Theft: Two Columbus girls, 14 and 16, along with a girl, 14, and a boy, 16, both of Jacksonville, Fla., were accused of stealing then eating $6.28 worth of food items while at Walmart.
Theft: Authorities charged Thomas J. Barrett of Woodland Avenue, Salem, after alleging the 18-year-old Barrett had stolen a $32 bottle of cologne from Sears in Southern Park Mall.
Theft: Michaelyn M. Purucker, 38, of Canfield Road, Youngstown, was charged with taking $130 worth of clothing from Sears.
July 27
Citation: Police handed a minor-misdemeanor citation to 43-year-old Joseph J. Catullo Jr. of Lesher Road, Columbiana, charging him with public intoxication after getting a complaint about someone who had created a nuisance at a South Avenue convenience store.
Theft: Cory V. Williams, 25, of Bonnie Brae Drive Northeast, Warren, was booked on a theft charge, accused of stealing three Nintendo Wii remote-control devices July 5 from Walmart.
Theft: Austintown police handed 34-year-old Elijah J. Taylor to township authorities. Taylor, of Mistletoe Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with stealing 16 items during a July 18 shoplifting situation at Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road.
Stolen property: Officers received information about two men trying to sell stolen goods to the Guitar Center, 7380 Market St., before filing felony receiving-stolen-property charges against Christopher J. Thomas, 28, of Buckeye Circle, Youngstown, and Jarrett L. Ortiz, 30, of Sheridan Road, Youngstown. A $594 electric guitar was one of the items that had been reported stolen in Youngstown, police said.
Theft: Someone stole a $150 prepaid cellphone from Walmart.
Theft: Authorities charged 29-year-old Abigail Vittorio of Leland Avenue, Poland, with stealing $108 worth of merchandise, including women’s shoes and clothing, from Walmart.
Theft: Police charged Rakeya L. Crafter, 22, and Dequan I. Cole, 28, both of Brooklyn Avenue, Youngstown, with taking $32 worth of merchandise, including spare ribs, from Walmart.
July 28
Theft: Paige A. Ross, 21, of Piccadilly Street, Campbell, was charged after police said she admitted having removed $200 from a Southern Park Mall kiosk.
