Scrappers top Crosscutters in 10 innings

WILLIAMSPORT, PA.
Taylor Murphy’s RBI single in the 10th inning propelled the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to a 5-1 victory over the Williamsport Crosscutters in New York- Penn League play Saturday night at Bowman Stadium.
The game went into extra innings tied at 1 and the Scrappers scored four runs in the top of the 10th. Catcher Francisco Mejia started the inning with a single. He went to second on a sacrifice bunt by first baseman Leo Castillo, and scored on Murphy’s single, giving the Scrappers a 2-1 lead. The Scrappers (18-24) added three more runs in the inning, two scoring on an error by Crosscutters second baseman Drew Stankiewicz. The last one came on a Steven Patterson single, plating third baseman Yonathan Mendoza.
Mejia went one-for-three with a RBI and Murphy went one-for-four for the Scrappers.
The Scrappers remained hitless until the 10th inning, scoring in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Mejia.
The Crosscutters (21-21) answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from Cord Sandberg, drving in Aaron Brown.
J.P. Feyereisen picked up his second win, pitching 12/3 innings of scoreless relief. Scrappers starter Julian Merryweather threw five innings, giving up six hits and one run. He also had five strikeouts. David Speer added 32/3 innings of relief, allowing one hit and striking out four.
Reliever Bryan Sova recieved the loss, pitching one inning, giving up five hits and four runs. Only one run was earned.
The Scrappers return home today to take on the State College Spikes at Eastwood Field at 5:05 p.m.
