Celebrating the end of the school year, first-, second- and third-grade students at Hilltop Elementary School participated in the school’s annual Field Day on June 6.

The day, organized by Hilltop physical education teacher Linda Magyar, gave students the opportunity to play games, including water games and tug-of-war, and run races outside on the playground.

Third-grade students completed a hula hoop relay, a dribble race, relay races during which they had to pass a ball over their head to the person behind them and then pass the ball over and under, a relay during which they had to balance a bean bag on their heads, a water balloon toss, a tug-of war and then to cool off, played water ball toss during which their teachers tossed them water balls and the students were soaked in the process.

To end the third-grader’s field day, Magyar lined the students up for a sprint race and they took off running, with the boys racing the boys and then the girls racing the girls.

Before the students were sent back to class, they enjoyed a popsicle treat provided by the school’s PTO.

The events were planned for each grade level skill set and for the students to use skills they learned throughout the year in gym class. At each grade level, the teachers assisted Magyar during the races.
