ASSOCIATIONS

Mill Creek Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon Street, Canfield. Guest speaker is Youngstown native Chris Yambar, nationally known comic creator and pop artist whose work most notably includes The Simpsons. His topic will be “I Can’t Believe I Get Paid to Do This.” The chapter’s scholarship recipients also have been invited. Dinner will include Swiss chicken, Swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, rolls, coffee or tea, and dessert. The cost is $17 per person and guests are welcome. Aglow International Alliance Area Lighthouse will meet at 10 a.m. Aug. 5 at Alliance Christian Center, 670 W. Main St., Alliance. Michael Kelley, pastor of music at New Life Ministries in Louisville, Ohio, will be the speaker. A donation of $3 is requested. Take snacks or finger foods to share.

Brush Knife Needle Folks meets from 9 to 11:45 a.m. every Tuesday at the Senior Independence Center, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Each one uses brush and canvas, knife and wood, needle and yarn or any material or tool to create a desired subject. New members are welcome to share or learn a craft. Greenford Ruritan Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Locust Grove Baptist Church. All members are urged to attend and to take a guest to the meeting.

Mahoning Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will have a dessert social from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 2 at Bethel Friends Social Hall, 2771 Spitler Road, Poland. The event will include a fashion show as well as desserts and refreshments prepared by members. The event is free for women who want to join or find out if they are eligible.

SOCIETIES

St. David’s Welsh Society of Youngstown will have its annual picnic at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 23, rain or shine, at Stacey Pavilion in Austintown Township Park, 6000 Kirk Road, Austintown. The picnic is catered and costs $17 per person or $4 for children 6 to 12; under 5 will eat free. The public is invited. Celtic Connection will provide entertainment. SUPPORT GROUPS

Alzheimer Network Family Support Group will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Easter Seals Adult Day Care Center, 721 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman and at noon Aug. 2 at Sunrise Assisted Living, 335 W. Parents Without Partners Portage County Chapter 600, a single parent support group, will have a buffet supper at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at its monthly dance at the Ritchie Memorial Shelter House, 109 West Ave., Tallmadge. Northeastern Ohio Radar Veterans will meet at 1 p.m. Aug. 14 at St. Helena Heritage Park, 123 Tuscarawas St., Canal Fulton. Dinner will be at 2 at Sisters Century House, 123 Canal St. The event is for any veteran and their spouse from the Northeastern Ohio area who has served at any radar site on land, sea or in the air.
