Manufacturers Coalition receives workforce grant

The Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition received a $243,000 Industry Workforce Alliance Grant designed to support development of a career-pathway system.
Grant sponsor was the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services in conjunction with the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, according to a press release issued by the MVMC.
“The proposal submitted by MVMC included plans to develop and implement industry-driven strategies that focus on building a skilled workforce that meets the occupational needs of the manufacturing industry,” the release says. “As a pilot, MVMC will track, measure and report on the project’s impact to state officials, so lessons learned can be applied in other regions throughout the state.”
The grant’s first phase is the development of a career- pathway system. The second phase is the implementation of a specialized-training program.
Partners on this grant were the Mahoning and Columbiana Training Association, Trumbull County OhioMeansJobs, Youngstown State University, Kent State University at Trumbull, Eastern Gateway Community College, Trumbull Career and Technical Center, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Choffin Career and Technical Center, Columbiana County Career and Technical Center, the Adult Basic Education programs throughout the three-county region and Compass’ WorkAdvance program.
MCTA will be the grant’s administrative and fiscal agent.
